Lollo Bear The African Flower Hexagon Crochet Pattern

Lollo African Flower Bear has been made using the African Flower Hexagon crochet pattern and modified versions thereof. She was named after my youngest daughter, whose nickname is Lollo.
The bear is made without seaming, with motifs being joined to each other as you crochet.
I have purposely over-explained every step needed to make Lollo, and the pattern comprises roughly 200 pages of instructions and nearly 300 photographs, explaining each step in the process. As such it is a large sized pattern and I have broken it up into separate PDFs, to make downloading easier.
I love the African Flower Hexagon pattern, and have been wanting to make something three dimensional from it, juggling motif size and shape to attain a 3D shape.
Although it may seem complicated, I have tried to make my explanations clear enough, so that even beginner crocheters can follow along.
I have reread this pattern more times than I care to count, and have carefully checked it for errors. Please let me know if you find an error…email me at
heidibearscreativeblog@gmail.com

Please note: This pattern is for personal use only, and should not be made for sale nor the pattern distributed . Please respect the work that has gone into this pattern.

This is pretty amazing :D I crochet too and sometimes shaping single stitches alone can be tricky. I can't even imagine how difficult it is making something 3-D from a motif. Awesome work! :D

I find it amazing that you can create something this well fitted, only using full hexagons and pentagons. well, and that one square... ^^
and as a bonus, the flowers are all strategically placed. I'm very much impressed!

is the hexagon itself a free pattern? I like it enough to be tempted to try making something with it myself. :)

Thank you very much... :) The hexagon is called the African Flower Hexagon, and you can see a step by step photo tutorial on my blog...

tried one, had no trouble with it. awesome. :D

a question, though:
if I wanted to make the square version (for a shoulder strap, for example), would I have to modify the one you've done here for the bear? because yours looks like it wouldn't lie flat... (which I assume is exactly what you'd want for the bear)

yes, you would have to change the pattern with extra fill in stitches to make the motif lie flat...I guess the extra stitches would change the look of the petal/flower part and might look like a different flower not an afx...you could modify the pattern to make an octagon, but you would still have to add extra sts at the corners to make a square....

maybe I'll get lucky if I try to modify a granny square. would mean some experimenting with the colors, but I might get close enough. :)
